How to Read a Welcome Bonus Before You Claim

How to Read a Welcome Bonus Before You Claim — Lucky555

Check the wagering requirement first

Every welcome bonus comes with a turnover condition, often called wagering requirement. This tells you how many times you must play through the bonus amount — or the bonus plus deposit — before you can withdraw any winnings. For example, a 20x requirement on a RM100 bonus means you need to place RM2,000 in bets.

Look for the exact multiplier written in the terms. Lower numbers are better, but also check whether it applies to the bonus only or to the deposit plus bonus. If the site states "bonus only," your real playthrough is lower. If it says "deposit + bonus," the total amount to wager rises sharply.

See which games count towards turnover

Not all games count the same towards the wagering requirement. Slots usually contribute 100%, while table games like blackjack or baccarat may count only 10% or even 0%. A RM100 bet on a slot clears RM100 of the requirement, but the same bet on baccarat might clear only RM10.

Look for the contribution percentages in the bonus terms. If you enjoy table games, choose a bonus that lets them count for at least 50%. Otherwise, you will find it hard to meet the turnover. Some platforms also block certain slot titles from contributing, so check that list before you spin.

Note the minimum deposit and payment methods

Most welcome bonuses set a minimum deposit to qualify, often between RM10 and RM50 on Malaysian sites. Depositing less than that means you receive no bonus. Also check whether the bonus is available only for certain payment methods. Some platforms exclude deposits made via Touch 'n Go or GrabPay.

If you plan to use a bank transfer or DuitNow, confirm those methods are eligible. The terms usually list accepted channels. If your preferred e-wallet is not listed, the bonus may not trigger. Always deposit at least the minimum shown, and use a method the platform confirms qualifies.

Read the maximum bet limit during playthrough

While you are meeting the wagering requirement, the site often caps how much you can bet per spin or hand. A common limit is RM25 per bet. Exceeding it can void your bonus and any winnings. This rule stops players from clearing turnover too quickly with large bets.

Find this limit in the terms under "maximum bet" or "bonus rules." If you usually place RM50 bets, this bonus is not suitable. Stick to bets at or below the limit until the requirement is met. Otherwise, you risk losing the bonus and any balance earned from it.

Know the expiry period of the bonus

Welcome bonuses do not last forever. Most Malaysian online casinos give you between 7 and 30 days to meet the wagering requirement. If you fail, the bonus and any winnings from it are removed. Your deposit usually stays, but the bonus portion disappears.

Check the exact number of days in the terms. Mark the deadline. If you can only play on weekends, a 7-day expiry may be too short. Pick a bonus with a longer period, or plan your sessions so you can clear the turnover before time runs out.

Look for excluded games and countries

Some bonuses restrict certain games from contributing to turnover. Progressive jackpot slots or live dealer games may be entirely excluded. Playing those while the bonus is active could break the terms. Also, some platforms exclude players from certain regions within Malaysia, even if you are a resident.

Read the full terms for any list of restricted games. If your favourite game is excluded, consider a different bonus. Likewise, confirm your location is eligible. The site may state "Not available for players in Sabah and Sarawak" or similar. Skipping this check could lead to a voided bonus.
